Foundation Classes For Beginner

New to Gymnastics?
This Is Exactly Where Your Child Starts.

Foundation is MAG’s beginner gymnastics route for children starting from the beginning.

They don’t need to arrive knowing a handstand, cartwheel or a list of gymnastics skills. They are coming here because they want to learn.

Your child doesn’t need to arrive as a gymnast. They just need a good place to begin.

Starting From the Beginning Is the Point

Your Child Doesn’t Need to Be “Ready” for Gymnastics

Parents sometimes worry that their child should already be flexible, strong, confident or able to do certain skills before joining.

Foundation is the beginner level. Starting without gymnastics experience isn’t a disadvantage here — it is exactly why this class exists.

✓
No previous gymnastics experience They are starting because they want to learn.
✓
No handstand or cartwheel required Skills are something to work towards, not something they need to prove before joining.
✓
They don’t have to feel confident on day one Starting something unfamiliar can feel like a big step. Confidence can grow through experience.
✓
They don’t need to know how far they want to go Right now, the important thing is finding out whether they enjoy gymnastics.
Their first job isn’t to impress anyone. It’s simply to have a go.
Their Gymnastics Journey Starts Here

New Skills. Small Wins. Growing Confidence.

A beginner doesn’t need an impressive starting point. Progress often begins with something much smaller: trying, learning, getting a little more comfortable and realising that something difficult is becoming possible.

A Serious Gymnastics Academy Without Expecting Your Child to Be a Serious Gymnast

MAG has routes into Intermediate Gymnastics , Advanced Gymnastics and artistic performance programmes.

But your child does not need to arrive wanting medals, competitions or elite gymnastics.

If they simply love coming to gymnastics, learning new things and getting a little better, that matters too.

And if, over time, their ability and ambition grow, they are already inside an academy with a clear route forward.

Progress That Belongs to Them

They Don’t Have to Keep Up With the Child Beside Them

Children don’t all arrive with the same confidence, physical ability or experience — and they don’t all develop at exactly the same speed.

The important comparison is not with somebody else. It’s with where they started.
01 Foundation is MAG’s beginner level.
02 Foundation skills are currently assessed twice each year.
03 MAG has a pathway into higher-level classes as gymnasts develop.

You’re Choosing Who Gets to Coach Your Child

A gymnastics class is not only about the skills being taught. It is also about the people teaching them and the environment your child walks into each week.

MAG’s wider coaching team works across recreational and artistic gymnastics, with the academy providing clear safeguarding, welfare and club policies for families.

The Questions Parents Are Usually Thinking

Before You Even Need to Ask

Starting a new activity can create lots of small questions. Here are the important ones we can answer now.

If your question is specific to your child, speak to us. We’d rather help you choose the right starting point than leave you guessing.

My child has never done gymnastics before. Is that okay?
Yes. Foundation is MAG’s beginner gymnastics level and is specifically the route for children starting gymnastics. Previous gymnastics experience is not required.
Do they need to know a cartwheel or handstand?
No gymnastics skills are listed as an entry requirement for Foundation. The point of joining a beginner class is to begin learning and developing skills.
What if my child is nervous about starting?
Starting somewhere new can feel like a big step. If there is anything about your child that would help the team understand how best to welcome them, contact MAG before their first session and let us know.
My child is around four years old. Is Foundation or Pre-School right?
If your child is around the transition between Pre-School and Foundation and you are not sure which route is appropriate, don’t guess. Contact the team and we can help you identify the right starting point. You can also read about MAG Pre-School Gymnastics .
Is my child too old to start gymnastics?
The current Foundation programme is listed for ages 4+. If your child is older and completely new to gymnastics, contact the team so we can help you understand the most appropriate class for their age and experience.
How will I know if they are progressing?
MAG currently assesses Foundation gymnastics skills twice each year. The academy also has progression routes into Intermediate and Advanced gymnastics as children develop.
Does starting at MAG mean my child has to compete?
MAG has competition and performance opportunities within its wider pathway. Foundation is the beginner route, and children do not need to arrive with a competitive ambition in order to begin learning gymnastics at MAG.
What if my child has additional needs or needs extra support?
Every child’s needs can be different. Contact MAG before joining so the team can understand your child and discuss the most appropriate starting point. You can also view MAG’s safeguarding, equality and welfare information .
What should they wear, and can parents watch?
Please check the current first-session arrangements with the MAG team before attending. We can confirm clothing, viewing and any other practical information you need for your child’s session.
How much does Foundation cost?
The current Foundation price shown is £43.50 per month per child. If you want to confirm the complete joining cost or whether any additional membership requirements apply, contact the team before registering.
